Here at All Saints’ Day School, we believe that all students can be great math students, confident in their mathematical ability. Small, student-centered math classes, rich in creativity and innovation ready our students for future success in math. Our emphasis on critical thinking, problem solving, communication, and collaboration also prepares them for an increasingly complex twenty first century world. 

The math curriculum is focused, rigorous and relevant. Content is linked both across grade levels and content fields.  Our challenging program and high expectations for excellence is partnered with strong support for each student. Smaller math classes allow teachers to create an environment in which they can be responsive to individual student needs and provide either the necessary support, or challenge, essential to cultivate confidence and success.  

Students are expected to be active participants and take responsibility for their own learning. We are aware that children acquire mathematical reasoning at differing times in their cognitive and chronological development and value the unique and varied ways in which students learn. For this reason, math groups are fluid throughout the year to assure students are in an appropriate and supportive environment that best enables them to develop as independent thinkers.

Projects, rich discussion, and collaboration create an engaging culture of problem-solving which includes such skills as: critical thinking, abstract reasoning, debate, perseverance and even conjecture. This environment is geared to inspire an appreciation and curiousity for the beauty and relevance of mathematics in their world.

  • Sixth Grade Mathematics Curriculum

    Sixth graders are divided into three mathematics groups:  Sixth Fundamental, Standard, and Accelerated.  In Fundamentals, the student reviews or is introduced to the following concepts:  number theory, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, decimals and fractions, equations and graphing, metric system, ratios, proportions, percent, and the basic geometrical measurements of angles, perimeter, area, and volume.  The Standard and Accelerated math classes cover the same topics at a more accelerated pace and with a broader and more in-depth discussion of each concept.  Abstract reasoning skills and problem solving techniques through a variety of activities will be introduced and developed in each of the classes.
  • Seventh Grade Mathematics Curriculum

    Seventh graders are divided into three Pre-Algebra groups:  Seventh Fundamentals, Standard and Accelerated.  The students in Fundamentals will be presented a comprehensive program providing a strong foundation in Pre-Algebra needed for the successful study of eighth grade Algebra.  This will include practice and review to reinforce and increase the student’s proficiency in the following areas:  number theory, expressions, equations, inequalities, all operations on integers and rational numbers, proportions, percents, geometric properties, and systems of measures.  An introduction will be given to statistics, probability and functions.  The Standard and Accelerated classes cover the same topics at a more accelerated pace and with a broader and more in-depth discussion os each concept.  Problem solving and its application will continue to be developed and strengthened in each of the classes
  • Eighth Grade Mathematics Curriculum

    The eighth grade students are divided into three algebra groups.  Each group is presented essential Algebraic skills and concepts necessary to progress successfully into a high school math program.  Practice and review of problem-solving skills and strategies will reinforce and increase the students’ math proficiency and confidence in their abilities. In each course, the students will simplify all of manner of algebraic expressions and solve and graph linear equations, inequalities, absolute value, and systems of equations.  They will cover square roots and operations with radicals, as well as simplification and factoring of polynomials and fractional equations.
