Focused Learning for Early and Middle School Years

It’s a privilege to be able to wonder, “Are there excellent private schools near me?” This question alone means you are thinking about giving your child the best education, and it could be within reach.

Why Private Preschool to Grade Eight Education Matters
Preschool, lower school, and middle school are the foundation for everything that follows, covering the child’s formative years!

Firstly, preschool lays the groundwork for how children experience the joy of discovery and relating to others — the first real environment where curiosity becomes learning and play becomes purpose.

The lower school years build on that momentum. Learners form their academic identity through reading, writing, and grasping numbers and logic. Students learn to express empathy, manage conflict, and develop resilience while beginning to discover initial interests that will grow into future passions.

Then, middle school transitions to students figuring out who they are– both as scholars and as people. These young adults seek a safe space to take risks, challenge assumptions, and grow into confident students who will thrive in high school and beyond.

Private schools, especially those that cater to children from preschool through eighth grade, offer an advantage: continuity.

Educators understand the long view, guiding learners through each developmental stage with intentionality, compassion, and elevated expectations. They enrich curricula and support systems in ways larger or more rigid educational institutions cannot.

The All Saints Day School Difference for Families Near Carmel

All Saints Day School has a unique educational philosophy. We see each student as an individual on a meaningful journey and a parent as our partner.

Our campus welcomes and celebrates wonder, preparing children for the world! We have teachers who know the capabilities of young minds and create classrooms where personal growth is just as significant as academic achievement.

All Saints Day School teaches the what, how, and why. Learners engage in core subjects, such as language arts, mathematics, science, history, foreign language, and art history. Then, we broaden their perspective through the following programs:
  • Environmental education
  • Visual and performing arts
  • World Religions
  • Physical education
  • Community service
  • Character education
  • Student government
  • Mentorship and advisory
Our curriculum progresses year after year, but we never rush childhood. Instead, we nurture it. We honor learning and help the youth uncover the absolute best version of themselves and those around them.

What Makes Us a Top Private School Near You

“How is All Saints Day School the premier choice among the private schools near me?”

We provide comprehensive education from preschool through middle school, preparing your children for high school and beyond. Our graduates? They go from Carmel, CA, to high schools and colleges nationwide! Let us demonstrate how.

Small Class Sizes
Our teachers understand each student’s personality, learning style, strengths, and improvement areas. Some thrive through hands-on activities; others prefer quiet reflection. Many respond to collaborative discussions and group projects.

In our spaces, no one gets lost in the crowd. Everyone shines.
With more one-on-one attention, educators offer targeted feedback, enrichment, and extra support. Small classes foster stronger peer relationships and a sense of belonging.

Outdoor Learning
Our beautiful campus, located just minutes from Carmel-by-the-Sea, promises fresh air and opportunities. Natural beauty surrounds us, inspiring learners to connect with the world and become stewards of the planet.

Through environmental education, students learn to respect and appreciate nature. Our Organic Garden is an outdoor classroom where planting, growing, harvesting, and caring for living systems happen. We also have cross-curricular lessons for nutrition and sustainability.
Children raise butterflies, visit farms, hike through forests, or observe tide pools. By fourth and fifth grade, we take them camping under the stars. In middle school, sixth graders attend Camp Ocean Pines to study marine life and forest ecosystems. In seventh grade, learners embark on a week-long experience at the Marin Headlands. Eighth graders explore Yosemite in the winter, a capstone trip about geology, ecology, cultural heritage, and service learning.

Character and Leadership Development
All Saints Day School takes character education seriously because emotional intelligence and leadership are as critical as letters and numbers. One of the most beloved traditions is the Buddies Program, where we pair older students with younger ones for mentorship and care.

In grades K-5, we use the PurposeFull People curriculum, focusing on monthly character traits like kindness, perseverance, courage, and gratitude. Middle school brings a structured Character and Advisory Program; learners meet regularly with a trusted teacher in small groups to discuss challenges and build friendships.

We highlight five core social-emotional learning competencies:
  • Self-awareness
  • Self-management
  • Social awareness
  • Relationship skills
  • Responsible decision-making
Moreover, through the student council, our learners plan events, lead projects, and represent their peers. We encourage them to use their voice, take initiative, and contribute to the community.

Hear From Our Families

Founded in 1961, All Saints Day School has been a place of learning for generations. Over the decades, countless students and families from Carmel, as far away as Salinas and Marina, and everywhere in between have walked our halls! Here are some of their stories:
  • “Because of my All Saints’ experience, high school and college were a breeze for me academically. I’m a confident public speaker, and I’m a conscious and giving member of my community. I developed lifelong friendships with students, parents, and faculty.” – Graduate
  • “This is a very special school. So grateful that our daughter spent her formative years learning and growing in such a supportive, enriching environment.” – Parent
  • “We left CUSD and were lucky to be able to enroll both our children at All Saints last year, and we could not be more pleased with our entire family’s experience. Despite a pandemic, despite masks, despite parent involvement being limited last year, we feel connected to a truly unique community that sees our children and honors them for exactly who they are while helping them discover who they can become.” – Parent
  • “The quality of instruction, the level of expectation in regard to behavior, inclusion, kindness and giving back to others… It’s just a portion of what makes it so different and so what I want for our children. It’s been an amazing choice for our family, and it’s worth every penny.” – Parent
  • “My children have been at ASDS since 2nd and 3rd grade (started the year before COVID). One will be graduating 8th grade this year and my second will be graduating next year. The AS community is a blessing and I love that all the faculty really know my children.” – Parent

  • Does All Saints accept applications after the stated deadline?

  • How does All Saints differ from a public school?

All Saints is a not-for-profit educational institution guided by its mission and governed by a voluntary Board of Trustees. Being an independent school, it not only meets and exceeds the California State Standards, but it also retains the right to enrich its own curriculum through the arts, technology and more. Funded by tuition and charitable contributions, All Saints receives no public funds and has control over the education which is provided.

Class sizes tend to be smaller than those in public schools, with students receiving more individualized attention. The National Educational Longitudinal Study (NELS), conducted by the U.S. Department of Education, reveals that larger percentages of students in independent schools are enrolled in advanced courses than in public, parochial, and other private schools and students go on to enroll in college at higher rates. They are also more likely to volunteer and become involved as citizens.

All Saints Day School meets the high accreditation standards of the National Association of Independent Schools NAIS and the California Association of Independent Schools CAIS.
  • Does All Saints offer tuition assistance?

No student or family should hesitate to apply for admission because of their inability to pay the entire cost. All Saints Day School is committed to making quality education accessible to all students, regardless of their financial circumstances.
    Our Variable Tuition Program
is available and is granted based on a family’s need. You can learn more by visiting Affording All Saints.
