Middle School

The Middle School years at All Saints are transformative ones as students’ intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development makes great strides. The Middle School offers a nurturing, yet challenging environment, in which these transitions can safely and successfully occur. Each student’s individual interests, strengths, and passions are recognized and encouraged to flourish. At the same time, teachers offer support and guidance as each student strives for mastery in areas of growth. The curriculum, beginning in sixth grade and continuing through eighth grade, is designed to promote students who are independent thinkers, at once knowledgeable, questioning, integrated and reflective.

Recognizing that Middle School students are intensely curious, enjoy active learning, and prefer cooperative group interactions, our teachers create a variety of learning environments that are designed for experiential, project-based learning that fosters critical thinking skills. Students are challenged to question, advocate for themselves, and think originally through Socratic teaching, a hallmark of the All Saints’ program. Also, middle school students are mastering the scholar skills necessary for academic success in high school including time management, organization, communication, cooperation, and responsibility.

The classic core subjects of language arts, mathematics, science, history, foreign language, and art history are enriched with programs that include environmental education, the visual and performing arts, Latin, religious studies, physical education, community service, character education, and student government. Students routinely participate in county-wide and state-level academic events including:

Science Fair, History Day, Mathletics & Math League, National French and Spanish Exams, National Steinbeck Young Writer’s competition, and the Monterey County Spelling Bee.

Our exceptional Middle School curriculum ensures that All Saints’ students do extremely well in the competitive high school admissions process. The successful placement of All Saints’ graduates in local independent high schools, national boarding schools, and later competitive colleges across the country speaks to the caliber of the middle school program. All Saints graduates take with them self-confidence born of personal accomplishment and a life-long love of learning.
