All Saints' community mourns loss of beloved teacher, Iris Charney Sullivan

It is with a heavy heart that I must share with the All Saints' family the sad news that Iris Sullivan, former longtime and much beloved All Saints' faculty member, passed suddenly over the weekend.

Iris began her All Saints' career in 1979. Before retiring in 2014, Iris taught and loved many generations of All Saints' 4th grade children. Ever a part of the fabric of All Saints', Iris retained close contact with our school and community after retiring, serving as a tutor and filling in whenever needed. Among many things, Iris is fondly remembered for her love of rainbows. A fan of Clifford, the Big Red Dog, Iris found ways to weave this into her teaching, much to the joy and delight of her students. Her personal collection of Clifford dogs decorated the 4th grade classroom for years, and when Iris retired she gifted one to each of her 4th graders. Iris will also be remembered for her Halloween costumes at Fall Festival and her passionate support of the Boston Red Sox.

Iris was a familiar and warm presence at countless school events and functions; she clearly loved All Saints' and was equally loved by all those who knew and interacted with her. While I was not fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Iris, it is clear she was an exceptional educator, tremendous colleague and friend to many, and a wonderful role model for children. She will be missed greatly.

We will share any further information regarding a service for Iris if and as we learn of it. Iris was well known to many in the school family, including a number of current students.

All Saints' will work with Iris' family to determine how best to celebrate the life of this wonderful woman and servant of children. I ask all of us to keep Iris and her daughter, Amy, in our thoughts and prayers at this very sad time for the All Saints' family.

Best Wishes,
