J.T. Byrne's award winning history day documentary screens at Carmel International Film Festival

J.T. Byrne's '17 documentary Exchanging Baseball Diamonds for Sandlots: How Baseball “Saved” Many Japanese Americans in the Internment Camps during World War II will be shown on Friday, October 21 at 5:30pm and on Saturday at 3:30pm at the Carmel Youth Center as part of the Carmel International Film Festival.

J.T. finished in 5th place at the 2016 National History Day Competition, out of the top 102 state winning documentaries in the Junior Individual Division, after winning the Monterey County and California State competitions.

All 7th grade All Saints' students compete at the Monterey County History Day competition and many proceed to the State competition and even to the National competition. History Day teaches students not only the topic they are researching but teaches them study, research, and time-management skills that are invaluable for their carreers in high school and even college.

Our students do very well in the annual History Day Competition, which speaks for our robust program that runs parallel to the regular world history curriculum in 7th grade, as well as the quality of expert advice and guidance the students receive from our History Day Advisors, Forbes Keaton and Kevin Day.

J.T. is the 4th student in 6 years to make it all the way to the finals in Maryland. In 2014 All Saints' student Molly Mancina '15 was the first Monterey County student to win the competition. In 2013 Kevin Cook '14 went to the Nationals and in 2011 Makenna Gibson '12 also made the trip to Maryland.
