Fine Arts Program
The Fine Arts program extends students opportunities for creative expression and team efforts, while developing confidence and discovering talents. An annual Shakespeare production for 7th and 8th graders and a full scale Spring musical for 3rd - 8th graders, introduce the children to well-known theater productions. Students participate in performing roles, directing, set designing and working as backstage crew. As host to the countywide Orchestra in the Schools program, ASDS encourages the interested student to participate in small group lessons and performances.
Chorus, bell choir, instrumental, and classroom music encourages an enthusiasm for music. The program includes traditional and modern liturgical works, folk, patriotic, jazz, and pop styles, as well as music theory and history.
The visual arts program is designed as a continuum for grades one through eight. All grades participate in drawing, painting, sculpture and ceramics. Essential to the education of the total child, these classes teach the disciplines necessary for creative expression. In the upper grades, year-long classes in Art History deepen students appreciation and knowledge of art.
