Frequently Asked Questions
Education is important to our family, but we cannot afford
the tuition. Is tuition assistance available?
Students are selected on the basis of their academic abilities
and positive social behavior, not on the ability of their family
to pay full tuition. Therefore, tuition assistance is available
to qualifying families in order to offer quality education to
deserving students whose families may be unable to support the
full cost. Each year our tuition assistance budget is approximately
10% of our operating budget. Applications for tuition assistance
are available from the admissions office, and are evaluated in
accordance with the guidelines of the School Scholarship Service
in Princeton, New Jersey.
What is the Early Childhood Unit (ECU)?
ECU is a multi-age, two year program which is purposefully designed
to meet a wider range of learning styles, interests, abilities,
preferred modes of self-expression, and attitudes than is typically
found in a single grade classroom. The possibility for content
rich, multi-faceted experiences for all children allows students
to pursue their own interests and represent their ideas through
a variety of means. ECU is a classroom community where everyone
is engaged in meaningful learning.
ECU is comprised of a group of approximately 30 children, ranging in age from 4-3/4 to 6 years old. From 8:00 AM until noon each day, a team of three teachers works with individual children and with large and small groups in intellectual, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual growth. The teachers provide a rich, developmentally appropriate program in language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, art, and music.
Do you have an after-school program, or before-school care?
The supervised Extended Day Program takes place in the Library
before school from 7:30-8:00 AM, and in the afternoon from 3:15
until 5:30 PM. During the afternoon, students may also be outside
on the playground.
The After School Enrichment Program (ASEP) is available to ECU students from noon until 3:15 PM daily. Two teachers run a program of creative activities which includes arts and crafts, cooking, library and computer lab visits, music, science, gardening, children’s literature, games and outdoor play. At 3:15 PM, the ECU students may join the extended day program in the Library.
There is no additional cost for either the extended day program or ASEP.
What time does the school day begin and end?
Students arrive at the classrooms between 8:00 and 8:10 AM each
morning. ECU dismissal is at noon daily (with the option of staying
in ASEP). Afternoon dismissal is at 3:15 PM for students in grades
1-8. After school activities, such as play rehearsals and sports,
begin at 3:15 and usually end at 4:20 PM. As noted above, the
extended care program runs from 3:15 - 5:30 PM daily.
